Meander Forth Chapter 0+1+2 Demo
A downloadable demo for Windows and Linux
Something sinister brews beneath the isle of Westlouia. A chill blows in on the wind, Animals grow aggressive, and people disappear. Fall draws near, and with it comes an omen for times ahead.
Garret Steps Out!
Finally, Garret Rapids gets some time in the sun! After cooping himself up for so long, his best friends Isaak and Scotty have invited him out to the campsite for one last night together before the weather gets cold. However, things do not go as planned...
Meander Forth
Meander Forth Chapter 0+1+2 is the demo for the upcoming Meander Forth. a story-driven platformer in the vein of Cave Story and Klonoa. In it, you play as an otter named Garret Rapids, who must (reluctantly) use his dark ice powers to save his friends from a curse that has scattered them to the wind!
Along the way, you platform your way through lush environments, meet a menagerie of quirky characters, and uncover the mysteries buried on the isle of Westlouia.
0+1+2?
This demo covers the first three chapters of Meander Forth:
- Chapter 0 - Teak's Tall Tale tells the story of wannabe-drummer Oscar Teak, who sets out to find his missing friend Tamree Willow with the help of a mysterious child...
- Chapter 1 finds Garret Rapids heading out to meet his friends for a camping trip, only for the night to end in disaster.
- Chapter 2, available to the public for the first time ever, has Garret use his new-found ice powers to find his missing brother at a festival at the fjord!
New Tech!
Unlike the previous versions of the game, this demo is the first to be built in the Godot Engine rather than Game Maker! Originally this was for purely technical reasons, but the engine has proven itself to be incredibly useful for this project, especially due to its Free-and-open-source nature.

this game was absolutely amazing and i can not wait to see the rest of it. 15/10
Thank you so much!
I found a bug: I am unable to play Teak’s Tall Tale on the Linux version because Teak keeps veering to the right without input.
Firstly, I liked what little writing there was. The main character has both the desire to be with his friends but also a lingering resentment and disappointment as to how the world is changing and him with it, and it’s clear with his dialogue that these two things are at present in conflict with one another. I definitely want to see where this story is going.
But, the gameplay is extremely bland. The first stage has zero complexity besides run, jump, and shoot and the boss is way too easy and simple. I would overhaul the entire stage to reward exploration more and make use of the bubble gun upgrade for platforming .
Still, the writing got me hooked enough to deem this demo worthy. I can connect you with resources to help game development if you would like.
Huh?? That's a bizarre bug. Teak uses the same code as Garret, so there shouldn't be a difference. I'll definitely look into it!
I was a little nervous cutting the demo off at the end of the first level, since it's just meant to introduce new players to the basic mechanics. Garret learns new abilities through the rest of the game, so the later levels have more to them.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, though!
Oh, right, what Linux distro are you running? I'm in Mint.
